I’m always looking for new “canvases” to experiment with. When I found these small wooden boxes at AC Moore, I just had to try altering them.  At a dollar a piece, why not give it a shot?

I know, I didn’t make them myself.  I have not yet progressed to the point where I can build boxes, or even simple frames, out of wood.  It would take me months to figure out how to build something like this, and quite a bit more than 1 dollar, and I have no shame in telling you that I have much more important things to do with my time.  Maybe someday when I’ve mastered everything else and I decide to become a master woodworker… :)

I am starting off pretty simple with these altered boxes, but I’m hoping as I get more comfortable I’ll be able to make them more wild and fun.  :)  I love the fact that these boxes don’t have latches- just a small magnetic button that holds the top and bottom together when they’re closed.

This vintage one with the bottles is my favorite of these altered boxes.  I was worried that gel medium wouldn’t be strong enough, so I used a special glue for metal and glass.  The three bottle are glued to each other as  well as the box to make them even more solid.

The square one is about 3 inches by 3 inches inside, and the rectangular one is 2 inches by 4 inches inside.  What types of treasures would you hold in these boxes?
