I have felt so rushed recently, and I know the feeling with only get worse as the days pass until Sep. 1st.  No, I won’t be boarding the Hogwarts Express, but I will be displaying my art in a downtown gallery, and I’m getting more nervous as the days pass.
Sometimes stress inspiration works, though.  At least for me.  Perhaps that’s why I’ve been a procrastinator all my life.  :)
I’ve really love adding paper clay to different pieces.  It began as an experiment.  I had never heard of it until I saw a bag of it at AC Moore, and decided to try it.  Since then I’ve used it in almost every piece.  It adds dimension and texture but does not add a lot of weight to my canvases.  I usually use it as an anchor for my paper pieces, but this time I wanted to work with the clay a little more before adding any paper.
I used a lot of paint layers over each “wave”.  I mixed some blue paint into the wet clay, so there are blue veins throughout instead of just on top.  I added the teal after it had dried, and then I used a round foam applicator to add varying layers of cream and white.  I was really pleased that I remembered I had the foam applicator- it really worked to give a foamy look to the paint, and to blend the color into the black. Adding the half circle of paint to the edges of the dry clay really gives it a feeling a movement, of distance, of power.  At least to me.  :)

My husband kept looking at this one as I was working on it and once I was finished.  I think it’s his favorite one so far, but of course, he is a California boy.  I suppose it makes sense.

These waves are really cool! You really did capture the look of foam waves and movement. Paper clay is fun to work with isn’t it? I haven’t used the brand you mentioned but have used Creative Paperclay and their even lighter weight version, Delight, Makins, and a couple of others. It just dawned on me, I”m not sure if you mean air dry clay (often called paper clay) that I was talking about or paper clay sometimes called fiber clay or celluclay. That actually is ceramic clay mixed with paper fibers. I’ve never used that kind of paper clay. Well, whichever you used you made lovely waves!

Also, congratulations on your gallery showing! That’s quite an accomplishment – good for you!!
