I love paper. I love tearing it, painting it, crumpling it, and finding the perfect prints for what I’m creating. For this piece, I used vellum, tissue, cardstock, patterned paper, and cardboard. I painted some blocks in black and white, and used a spray bottle to make some of my ink splatters and paint run a little. The wire was the final touch that made the whole piece come together.
The phrase is one of my favorites. I know in my own life, some really great things have been the result of some tragic situations, as confusing as that sounds. The torn paper, splatters and wrinkles really seemed like the perfect backdrop for these words. By themselves, each element is really just a piece of junk that you would only think to throw away. Together, though, they make one complete whole, a finished piece that, I flatter myself, has value and merit. There’s a lesson in there somewhere…
this is just speaking to me, love the quote..
Thank you! I’m so glad!
