I did it! I FINALLY finished this piece. I had really no idea how ambitious I was when I decided to use so many paper pieces, but I love the finished look. I decided to call it “Tide Pool” because the colors are so reminiscent of water and sand by themselves, but the paper pieces all together like they are bring to mind clusters of anemones, shellfish and barnacles that appear as the tide goes out. The smudges of color on the canvas and the way they flow downward also shows the movement of the tide outward, the water rushing back to the sea.
One of the reasons adding my paper pieces took so long, is because most of them are comprised of three strips of paper, shaped in a way that requires extra time. Each piece is rolled individually, and when I do these particular ones, it takes at least two minutes to complete just one finished element. I haven’t counted how many pieces I included, but I would not be surprised to find the number in the mid thousands. That doesn’t count the time it took to adhere each piece to the canvas. Goodness, the more I talk about this the more I’m surprised I finished at all! :) But it’s such a fun piece and I really enjoy seeing the colors and shapes in play.
This is a really unique piece – I love the colors and the way it comes together like waves in the ocean. Nice work Anjuli.
An amazing story behind this piece. The interaction of the various colors of rolled paper is splendid!
Thanks for all your comments! I’ll let my husband know his idea for naming this piece has been heralded as “perfect”. :) That should put a big smile on his face!
Beautiful, and the name goes perfectly with it.
Wow! That is outstanding, you did a wonderful job. It is so beautiful. And I think that name fits it perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing.
