I took a break from rolling all my paper pieces for my quilling pieces and decided to do a stitched collage instead.  Though I still used a lot of paper.  :)
I have an old pocket dictionary that I love to use in my collages.  I rip pages out and usually I darken them with walnut ink, which is what I did here.  I used a wide page of vellum with ripped edges to cover most of the pages.  It’s tough to get vellum to cooperate when you use it in big chunks like this- I need to practice a bit more to get it right.  I might need to water down the gel medium I use to adhere my paper to my canvases in the case of vellum.  It might work better to ensure I’ve coated the entire surface evenly so that when it dries the wrinkles disappear.  We’ll see…
I wanted to try different elements with this one.  I have been punching a lot of paper at work making bound handbooks for my company, and I as I was about to throw away the little rectangles from the hole punches, I decided they might be fun to do an art project with.  So I colored them black and added a few to this piece.  Now I just need to use the rest of them.  I may have saved a few too many, now that I think about it… oh well.  They’ll keep me busy for the next 10 years.
The stitching is just regular thread.  I stitched right through the canvas, though I did have to avoid the edges where the canvas is stretched over the wood.    I must admit, I love the look it creates, even though I had to stick to the middle of the canvas.
I’ve decided that all this stitched collage lacks is a quote, but I’m struggling to find one.  Anyone have any suggestions?
