As an emerging artist, I’ve been really trying to not only expand my artistic skills with each piece I create, but also improve the way I showcase and market my art. I have a natural fear of trying new things, mostly because the unfamiliar is intimidating and it’s easier to just do what you already know. But you don’t grow that way, and if you don’t grow, you fade away.
I’ve been working recently on finding new opportunities for artists- something I can really grow with. What I found was a newly created online art auction and gallery called Skaptart. In fact, this is so new that they are still collecting from artists and haven’t yet launched their website. However, this is their facebook page.
One way they are a little different from other opportunities is that they require their artists to make videos outlining the process of each piece they make. You can do this by recording yourself working on a piece and speeding it up, or by taking lots of pictures of each stage of your creative process, and transforming those pictures into a video. I have never done anything like this before, but I found some software online called VideoMach that allows me to take my pictures and makes a time lapse video. The one below is the first video I have ever made, and I can already see that I have a lot of improving to do. The pictures were not this blurry when I took them, at least I don’t think they were. I probably need a better camera. Or a better backdrop. Better lighting. More knowledge of editing practices, etc. Whew… I’m getting a little tired just thinking about all I have to learn. But it’s exciting at the same time!! If you have any tips or instruction, don’t hesitate to leave me a comment. I’ll take all the help I can get!!
