mixed media abstract art with quilled paper piecesBlack and White!  Such a classic combo, especially coupled with some hastily scribbled text and a little bit of Tim Holtz’ patterned tissue paper.  I love how so many different elements can be combined to create simple, but striking effects.

I began by misting some wet lines of india ink, creating a feathered look.  I added strips of patterned tissue paper in the sections I knew I was going to use black modeling paste, without being to particular about what was covered and what wasn’t.  I knew I was going to use abstract quilling in this piece- right in the middle of my black modeling paste “scars”.   I love the trypophobic look they bring, as if inside these wounds there are things growing and festering.

Once I put the pieces in place, all I needed were some random scribbles and text to finish it up.  I love the messiness.
